What’s left after 10 years of Pokémon GO & What might be next?
This past July Pokemon GO officially passed its 10th Anniversary. 10 years of events, raids, new mechanics, and new Pokemon. With over 950 unique Pokémon released in GO available to capture and evolve what can we expect going forward with so few options left? With the transition of ownership from “Niantic, Inc.” to “Scoply, Inc.”, this might result in some serious changes in the near future. There remains the distinct possibility that a lot of the previous decisions regarding implementation will be largely the same going forward. With that said, these are still our own speculations based on simple identifiable patterns of the last 10 years.

If we break down all the remaining Pokémon yet to be introduced into the game by category, we get a list that looks something like this:
5 Mythical Pokémon
20 Legendary Pokémon
22 Paradox Pokémon
And about 12 forms (separate from Megas, Gigantamax, or Alcremie)
With all of this taken into account that leaves only 20 missing Pokémon species that don’t fit into the previous categories.
While some simple observations can be made (such as Paradox Pokémon likely being tied to some new mechanic, or missing Legendaries being implemented into seasonal passes or standard raids) the most intriguing observation is related to Mythical Pokémon. When you look at the graphic attached to this article, you might notice that 3 of the 5 remaining Mythical Pokémon are all from the same region and those Pokémon that have surprisingly not yet been implemented in the last 10 years. With that being the case, it’s largely accepted that those 3 Pokémon won’t be implemented anytime soon leaving only 2 Mythicals missing for future global events, Magearna and Pecharunt.
While anything is possible it feels like the safer claim to make is that Magearna will be the Mythical for GO Fest 2027. This Pokémon and the previous GO Fest Mythical, Zeraora, both recently receiving Mega Evolutions. It’s highly possible that next year will also heavily focus on Megas. With over 30 new Megas that need to be implemented into GO, it could be easily spread out until the upcoming new games, “Winds & Waves” releases for the Nintendo Switch 2 next year.

However beyond speculations of Mega Evolution Pokémon it’s clearly evident that with so few average Pokémon left to debut in the game, Scoply may need to unnecessarily stretch out the events for the remaining missing Pokémon while they wait with the rest of us for the next game.
What do you think? Do you agree with our speculation that the game will run out of new Pokémon very soon, who do you think is going to debut next?
